"In truth, runners don't race other runners.  They race against themselves: to conquer their wills, to transcend their weaknesses, to beat back their nightmares.  And while a runner can't actually beat himself, he can beat his time. Even years into running, he can get better." Running for His Life by Michael Hall

I woke up feeling great and looking forward to a great run of my favorite Little Cottonwood 5 miler and then heading up the Bells Canyon trail up to the lake and back after dropping off my 4 year old at preschool in the afternoon.  So, I cleaned and did laundry and then looked at my calendar and I stared at the 1:30 ortho appt. for my 13 yr old! UGH!  I was so bugged!  I then thought, it is suppose to be nice weather tomorrow too, so I will go tomorrow.  Then I realized that I get to go to school with my preschooler for a parent day party.  I finally have my miles up a bit and the weather is not going to be nice like this for long and then I will be stuck with my treadmill! :(

I dropped off my 4 yr old and went to the middle school and parked.  I turned on my Garmin. I didn't know where I would go, but started to run.  I had 50 minutes.  I ran up to the mouth of Big Cottonwood and back with 4 minutes to spare.  It was beautiful.  It was a fun run.  I loved every second of my 50 minutes of freedom!

I listened to Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker while running today.  I love classical music....I think it comes from a father that would blare Mozart, Bach and the Three Tenors during every family road trip.  I hated the music then (still don't like Opera), but have grown to appreciate it in my old age.  My daughter has been in the Ballet West's version of the Nutcracker every year for the past couple of years.  When I am tired of watching ballet, I close my eyes and enjoy the beauty of the Utah Symphony Orchestra as they play in the Capital Theatre....nothing quite like it! :)

Ran my Little Cottonwood loop.  What a morning!  Loved every second of it.  My legs were so sore after my kickboxing class yesterday and I almost took the day off.  So glad I didn't  I forgot my 13 yr old has late start today so I threw on my shoes and headed out.  Beautiful morning.  My legs felt great and I can tell that I am getting in better shape.

Yesterday felt like a marathon and today is going to be the same.  Heading to volunteer from 9-1 at the elementary school.  Early day for the little ones and then I am getting them off to friends for one sleepover and some until Rick gets off work.  I have to drive across the valley in rush hour traffic to meet my sisters for the Twilight movie.  My sis has a friend that rents out a movie theatre every year and she buys all of us tickets for a sisters night out.  I can't wait to eat popcorn, laugh and have a fun night with my sisters!

IJR, I read your daughters blog two nights ago and just haven't had time to respond to it.  She is an amazing girl.  You must be so proud of her.  Everyone should read her blog and donate to her missionary effort if they have some extra to give.

I got the "Worst Mom in the World" name calling again today.  My 13 yr old somehow has teachers that just don't mark his work down right because three of them have his assignments marked as a ZERO - MISSING.  While I was on him for his school work, I started in on his messy room...it just started the afternoon out great.  I had two hours before I had to take another kid to a birthday party, so I thought I could definitely use a run and had time to get one in.

Started out by drinking an Atkins protein shake before my run....BAD IDEA!!!  1.5 miles into it I started not feeling good, I almost threw-up.  My gut started to explode with air.  My intestines started hurting so bad.  I had to stop and walk for a bit because I thought I was going to explode from one end or the other. I turned around before my half way mark.  I almost went to the house of a cousin of my husband that was on my way back, but the thought of asking to use their bathroom, when it might end up like the Dumb and Dumber bathroom scene made me think that an accident on the rode would be better!  ha! I had to walk most of the way back and I was in pain.  Rick had been at the UofU basketball game and passed me as I was walking into the neighborhood. I wish he had been driving by 20 minutes earlier!  What a great day! ha!

I better get to Costco on Monday and buy my favorite brand of protein drinks that I am out of.  Atkins is going in the garbage!
