Recovering from micro-fracture surgery on my right knee.  I tore the cartilage off of my knee while doing a speed-training run one month before Boston.  Doc gave me a cortisone shot so that I was able to finish Boston.  After the surgery, I was told to never run again. :(

"In truth, runners don't race other runners.  They race against themselves: to conquer their wills, to transcend their weaknesses, to beat back their nightmares.  And while a runner can't actually beat himself, he can beat his time. Even years into running, he can get better." Running for His Life by Michael Hall

I woke up feeling great and looking forward to a great run of my favorite Little Cottonwood 5 miler and then heading up the Bells Canyon trail up to the lake and back after dropping off my 4 year old at preschool in the afternoon.  So, I cleaned and did laundry and then looked at my calendar and I stared at the 1:30 ortho appt. for my 13 yr old! UGH!  I was so bugged!  I then thought, it is suppose to be nice weather tomorrow too, so I will go tomorrow.  Then I realized that I get to go to school with my preschooler for a parent day party.  I finally have my miles up a bit and the weather is not going to be nice like this for long and then I will be stuck with my treadmill! :(

I dropped off my 4 yr old and went to the middle school and parked.  I turned on my Garmin. I didn't know where I would go, but started to run.  I had 50 minutes.  I ran up to the mouth of Big Cottonwood and back with 4 minutes to spare.  It was beautiful.  It was a fun run.  I loved every second of my 50 minutes of freedom!

I listened to Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker while running today.  I love classical music....I think it comes from a father that would blare Mozart, Bach and the Three Tenors during every family road trip.  I hated the music then (still don't like Opera), but have grown to appreciate it in my old age.  My daughter has been in the Ballet West's version of the Nutcracker every year for the past couple of years.  When I am tired of watching ballet, I close my eyes and enjoy the beauty of the Utah Symphony Orchestra as they play in the Capital Theatre....nothing quite like it! :)

Way to get the run in! It can be a challenge at times! My son that is in Michigan is quite the piano player and he would play the classics. Boy do I miss the music and the son!

Ah, I love classical. Barber is my favorite. Glad you got your miles in. It's great to see you back at it.

Interesting choice of music for running - sounds relaxing. I don't blame you on opera though, I've never met anyone who liked it.

Wow...What a great positive attitude and great time managment! You only have two things wrong in your Blog entry: First it's called a "dreadmill" and second...you're not old...! I'm glad you had a great day, have another today!

You sound just like me. Glad I am not the only one listening and loving classical music. :)

Oh the drawbacks of being a responsible mother. Nice way to fit it all in! I enjoy a few classical pieces myself :)

Oh, and I love that your daughter dances in the Nutcracker! I always tried out, but never made it. I was too tall, so I was auditioning for a part 1-2 years above my age level :( never fun.

Yay for 50 minutes of freedom!! I'm not in to classical music, but I sat through the nutcracker many times to see my little girls dance. Great memories every time I hear it now.
