Short-Term Running Goals:

Recovering from micro-fracture surgery on my right knee.  I tore the cartilage off of my knee while doing a speed-training run one month before Boston.  Doc gave me a cortisone shot so that I was able to finish Boston.  After the surgery, I was told to never run again. :(

Ran Boston on April 14, 2012!

"In truth, runners don't race other runners.  They race against themselves: to conquer their wills, to transcend their weaknesses, to beat back their nightmares.  And while a runner can't actually beat himself, he can beat his time. Went to the running store to buy some running skirts to cover up.  Bought two new skirts and a new pair of Altras.  My calves are hurting after running in them and so are my shins.  We'll see how they work.  Ran 3 and felt pretty good.  Off to do the running kids around. :)

Altra's do hurt. You're not alone.

Did you say you were going to buy skirts to cover up?

So I'm trying to understand this. Skirts hurt your calves? Thought you strap them on your waist and not your legs. Is that why you purchased two... one to cover up with and the other for your calf? Nice run by the way!

The first couple of days I ran in my Saucony's my calves got really sore, then after a while I really liked them. I guess it's just the slight change in the height or angle of the heel. I'm sure you will get used to them. I'm glad to see you're mixing up your milage (long and short). I think that is what is helping my legs and feet in regards to recovery and no injuries.

Haha! No the running skirt doesn't seem to give me a better workout....just keeps me from feeling embarrassed when I run in tights! The Altras are shoes that have a zero drop. They are close to running barefoot. They are not very comfy but are pretty roomy for my fat feet and are suppose to help your running form....we'll see. I love my Asics and they feel sooooooooooo much better!

Nice run! I've got to jump on the minimalist shoe bandwagon sometime - I'm just a scaredy cat.

I ran one cold morning with only my "tights" (I'd rather call them running tights). I actually forgot to put on my shorts. It was dark and I didn't realize that I had forgotten the shorts until about halfway through the run. Needless to say that second half of my run was the fastest 4 miles I have ever run! I felt very embarrasses :-)

I'm not on the bandwagon! I don't like them....I think I need to break them and my body in to them though. I''ll let you know. I am a much bigger fan of comfy shoes!

Ahahahaaa! IJR that made me laugh so hard!

IJR - do you mean you felt I'm-bare-assed?

From Steam8 on Wed, Nov 30, 2011 at 17:15:48 from 166.70.55.77

Burt, have you ever ran in tights before? That is exactly how you feel! ha!

From Steam8 on Wed, Nov 30, 2011 at 17:27:23 from 166.70.55.77

OH...wait! Burt, I forgot! You go running in panty hose!!

From I Just Run on Wed, Nov 30, 2011 at 17:42:08 from 67.79.11.242

Panty hose really itches if you don't shave. :)
