Short-Term Running Goals:

Recovering from micro-fracture surgery on my right knee.  I tore the cartilage off of my knee while doing a speed-training run one month before Boston.  Doc gave me a cortisone shot so that I was able to finish Boston.  After the surgery, I was told to never run again. :(

Long-Term Running Goals:

QUALIFIED FOR BOSTON! April 16, 2011 

Ran Boston on April 14, 2012!

Things are looking up today!  I see the doc at 11 and I just registered for Boston.  I am hoping I get the green light to run today and .....sooooooo hoping I make it into BOSTON!  

It doesn't hurt that is is a beautiful day today.  If I get the green light.....I will be running 2 today!

Not great news. With the past two stress fractures, I have been told to wear the boot for 6 week and no follow up. This time it was boot for 4 weeks and a follow up. Follow up appt. was more x-rays and they said they could see a difference between the two, so that was good. They said I could start back at it by walking around the block for a couple of days and if I had any pain or tingling in the foot to put the boot back on for the rest of the day.....what? YUCK! :( No running for a couple of weeks! BOO

I'm sorry about the boot, that's no fun, but maybe the additional time off will be a blessing in disguise :) - and you will be strong for Boston right!?! :)

Ahhh...I was hoping to hear better news, but on the bright side he did say to start walking without the boot, it was healing and ONLY a couple more weeks :-)

Haha! Biking it will be then! I actually asked the doc about biking because we have one in our basement. The doc told me that I could only ride the stationary bike for 20 minutes and NO standing on the pedals......so I asked him, "what is the point of getting on the bike for 20 minutes and not pedaling hard?" He told me that dealing with runners is a pain in the .....butt! ha!

Does that doctor really know who he's dealing with...not just a runnrr, but a mad runner, and on top of that a mad runner MOM.....If I were him I'd be careful...!!!

I love it "dealing with runners is a pain in the ...butt!" I don't know a doctor (even those that ARE runners) that don't share that sentiment. At least the ones I go to. My PT just always shakes his head - I can read a 1,000 words in that head drop and shake!

I 4th the bike. Even if it is for 20 minutes. Do speed and not hills. Get those legs back to turnover and sweat it out a little. I hate standing on the bike. Put your butt down and use your legs -don't cheat and use your body weight!

Although the 'bad news' was no running - I give a hooray! for the good news of at least getting the boot off and walking!! It IS the right direction. Oh, and Boston - jealous!
