Short-Term Running Goals:

Recovering from micro-fracture surgery on my right knee.  I tore the cartilage off of my knee while doing a speed-training run one month before Boston.  Doc gave me a cortisone shot so that I was able to finish Boston.  After the surgery, I was told to never run again. :(

"In truth, runners don't race other runners.  They race against themselves: to conquer their wills, to transcend their weaknesses, to beat back their nightmares.  And while a runner can't actually beat himself, he can beat his time. Even years into running, he can get better." Running for His Life by Michael Hall

Ran 4 in 35 min 20 seconds.....thought I was going to puke when I finished because I goosed it the last .3!  I have no idea how I ever ran a marathon after my run today. ...4 miles about killed my pathetic body!

I don't know about the run less, run faster program.....I can't even run slow less!  I was pushing myself to run under 9 minute miles and it was so hard!

I woke up this morning and felt like a hunk of crud and it has lasted all day. I whipped my kids into cleaning rooms before school today because we haven't been home for days....it's been a crazy around here.   I deHalloweened my house and put up Thanksgiving junk and went for a cruddy, slow run and have been running kids around ever since! :(

Nice job on the miles, glad to see you running again. I wouldn't worry about starting any crazy run fast program until you have been running some easy miles for a month or two. Your cardio will come back to you!

Just go with what feels good. I feel like a hunk of crud every morning...thanks for giving me such eloquent words. I love it

Run less, Run Faster is HARD CORE. I can not do any of those workouts. I thin I never hit the pace they suggested---EVER!

Now, cut yourself some slack! You have been out for a bit, it will take a few weeks. PLUS, this is the off season. You are supposed to just run slow and enjoy it 99% of the time, and then maybe add 1% speed here and there when you feel good.

NO WORRIES, it will come back. I promise, I have been there.

I second everything Kelli said.

I did the Run Less, Run Faster program twice. I have the book. I did not enjoy it. That's because I like running more than xtraining. AND 99% of my running is nice and easy! :)

You will find your groove and back to your former happy running self soon!!!

Don't worry! It will all come back. The body will remember. Isn't nice to be running again.

Glad to hear you're getting back into it. And props to you. Your RLRF program seems good in theory, but sounds like no fun at all.

Like it's been said, be patient with yourself. It will come back, it will just take some time. Great job getting it done!

So happy to see that you are at least running again. Baby steps....it will all come back soon enough.

From Dan on Thu, Nov 03, 2011 at 20:19:44 from 24.209.83.20

What a ton of people said. It WILL come back. We all have those moments of 'How did I ever run a marathon'. Slow and steady - just happy to see you running.

Hey Steam...It will all come back quickly for you...You're young and resiliant! Be patient, give it a little more time and you'll be back on track soon. I know it's all still good when you feel like crud and can mention running seven times in your blog :-)

Patience. Hang in there! Listen to Kelli, she is smart! :)
