Short-Term Running Goals:

Recovering from micro-fracture surgery on my right knee.  I tore the cartilage off of my knee while doing a speed-training run one month before Boston.  Doc gave me a cortisone shot so that I was able to finish Boston.  After the surgery, I was told to never run again. :(

"In truth, runners don't race other runners.  They race against themselves: to conquer their wills, to transcend their weaknesses, to beat back their nightmares.  And while a runner can't actually beat himself, he can beat his time. Even years into running, he can get better." Running for His Life by Michael Hall

My nephew texted me this morning at 3am (woke me up) to let me know that he didn't want to run early, he wanted to start at 10...which ended up being 10:30 by the time he got to my house.  He had been out partying with friends all night.  Partying in Utah isn't the same as partying in other states--A lot of us are Mormon.

We started out going up Little Cottonwood to the mouth of the canyon and then down to Wasatch.  We hit a grocery store for Muscle Milk and kept trudging through the misery of the heat! My legs hurt, my side hurt (from laughing at my nephew too much) and just all over misery because I am in pathetic shape!  We ran 13.1 in 2:16....no lie, that sad!  I didn't even want to post it.  It was hard to keep in the 9s! Sad! Sad! Sad!  How am I going to run a half marathon in 2 weeks and even get a semi-decent time?  I'm not! :(  I guess I will get out there and do it for fun and enjoy the beautiful scenery and make a few new friends along the way.  I am a bit too chatty!

I hope you all have a wonderful holiday weekend.  I am so grateful for our forefathers that sacrificed so much for their posterity and their beliefs.  What a wonderful country we live in.

I think his 'partying' means staying up late playing video games, doesn't it? :)

At least you got out there and got it in! I'm sure you'll be just fine in your half. :)

No, he likes to chat too....it must be in the genes. He ate candy and junk with a bunch of friends while they laid on a tennis court and looked at the stars. He is single with nights free and lot of energy and loves to play tennis!

Well, at least that sounds like more fun than video games! :)

Have a nice race, and party hearty when you're done.

Amen to the forefathers - and I plead the 5th on being chatty! Don't sweat the pace- enjoy the miles, and after all you KNOW you have run it in the past so the pace will come back :)

The course you ran is a HARD course, and it was the heat of the day! No wonder it was horrible. Don't worry, the race will be cool and perfect. You will surprise yourself!

14+ miles in the heat is good no matter what...at least that's what people keep telling me...

Congrats on your recent anniversary as well. Have a great race!
