Recovering from micro-fracture surgery on my right knee.  I tore the cartilage off of my knee while doing a speed-training run one month before Boston.  Doc gave me a cortisone shot so that I was able to finish Boston.  After the surgery, I was told to never run again. :(

"In truth, runners don't race other runners.  They race against themselves: to conquer their wills, to transcend their weaknesses, to beat back their nightmares.  And while a runner can't actually beat himself, he can beat his time. Negative Ghost Rider, the pattern is full.

It is beautiful, you're right though. I wish I was there.

I am afraid I am no where close to that, else I just might! You have not given us an update on how you are doing! *and I asked twice (this makes 3), not that anyone is counting :p

Well...I was feeling okay after laying flat for 4 days and then the past two days, I went nuts and did too much. It is hurting this morning -- and now I am heading off to run 10 with my 21 yr old nephew. I better take a bottle of Ibuprofen!

From Steam8 on Fri, Jun 17, 2011 at 09:38:07 from 166.70.55.77

Oh...and Dan, you are no where close to running a half? Is that what you meant? You are running so many miles--nice excuse!

From Walter on Fri, Jun 17, 2011 at 10:17:39 from 24.2.69.110

I love that half but have a marathon to close to it this year. I would totally be there otherwise. Do it again next year.

From Dan on Fri, Jun 17, 2011 at 11:46:43 from 24.209.83.20

Wow- jumping right back in eh? Be safe :)Ahhhh I meant I live no where close :( I would love to come out there for a run/race sometime. It seems like you guys have tons of good ones. Now go get those avocados :) (and more Advil if you need it)

From Steam8 on Fri, Jun 17, 2011 at 13:31:26 from 166.70.55.77

I run it every year Walter....that will be fun to see you there next year!

Dan, I need to go get the avocados and give that recipe a try. I think I'll hit the store tomorrow!

From Walter on Fri, Jun 17, 2011 at 13:45:31 from 24.2.69.110

I almost won it last year, it was so close. But I love hitting in the high 4 minute range in a half marathon. Nothing sweeter.

From Steam8 on Fri, Jun 17, 2011 at 18:55:03 from 166.70.55.77

I am sure I probably saw you walking around last year. I was sitting close to the winner for the awards. He ran it in 1:10. It was the guy who won the Salt Lake Marathon that year. I ran with some friends and their son won first for his age group so we stayed to get his award.

From Walter on Fri, Jun 17, 2011 at 19:02:54 from 24.2.69.110

It was Nathan Hornock and he had a great kick on his last 2 miles. I actually led till mile 8 or so and he passed me and stayed within reach the whole race and when I made a move to go he responded to it.

Those awards are awesome but sucked to gave to wait 2 hours after finishing to get them. I will miss out On that this year.

I can't even imagine running that fast! You are amazing Walter! Ya, it is always so disorganized...but I love the small town part of it all. I just love it down there. I should be from a small town, I fit in more down there. No city chic here!

From Walter on Fri, Jun 17, 2011 at 20:54:14 from 24.2.69.110

I hear you there! The smallest town I've lived in is Coeurdalene Idaho. Maybe that's why I miss it so much.

Okay... I'm in. Where is Bryce Canyon and is registration still open? LOL!

(seriously... I could use a "get away from the flood of 300 years" for a bit... so seriously contemplating this)

Would a crazy Canuck be welcome? :)

Eta: WOW! I just checked out the website... not too to far from Flag (I lived there for 2 years)... could fly to Vegas, rent a car... oh my! (what a lovely place for a run!) Hm...

From Steam8 on Sun, Jun 19, 2011 at 00:18:19 from 166.70.55.77

Yep, yep, yep! They welcome this crazzy lady! What have you decided? Would you come alone or could you drag someone with you? You could stay in our place close to Bryce the night before the race if you don't mind sharing a house with me, my hub and four kids with our friends and their four kids and my nephew. Are you used to a full house? You could stay in one of the motels around if you don't like me! :)

From KristenL on Mon, Jun 20, 2011 at 09:10:38 from 50.71.18.196

Oh wow... that would be sooooo neat! K... as this requires a bit of travel on my part (and re-assessment given my run experiment yesterday...), pls give me a couple of days and I will totally get back to you on this. :)

It would be very nice to meet in person and to take in a lovely run in such beautiful scenery. There is nothing like running in the great outdoors! :)

I am thinking about running this half! My hubby and I are going down to the Shakespear Featival in Cedar City that Friday. How feasible is it to drive from Cedar to the start the morning of the race? Is there a place to park? Is this race chip timed or may be the field is rather small thus no need for chip? Can I pick up the bib the morning of? I guess I should ask the RD these questions. But I thought you may be able to give me more insights since you've run it before! it'd be cool to see you there! Thanks!
