"In truth, runners don't race other runners.  They race against themselves: to conquer their wills, to transcend their weaknesses, to beat back their nightmares.  And while a runner can't actually beat himself, he can beat his time. Even years into running, he can get better." Running for His Life by Michael Hall

I had to get out and enjoy this weather today.  I have been trying so hard to stay in all week! I have been riding the stationary bike every morning for an hour before my kids are up.  Kickboxing today and then after taking my 4 yr old to preschool, I just couldn't stay away from the Bells Canyon Trail any longer.

I ran down to the trailhead from my house and started up.  Almost to the lake when I heard a rattle and saw the tail of a snake close to where my foot had been.  It started heading down the side of the mountain just off the trail.  It scared the beejeevers out of me!  I started to shudder and thought I was going to puke.  I got to the top and I usually head around the lake but I saw another hiker and she was heading down and I told her to watch out for the rattlesnake that was just a bit from the top.  I was too afraid to head around the lake by myself after that and headed back down with her.  As we got close to the spot that I saw and heard the snake, I told her we were close to where the snake was and just then it started rattling at us and she ran by and I was screaming! ha!  She looked back off the trail and told me that I should be okay if I ran past it that it was far enough from the trail that it probably couldn't bite me.  I ran up on the side, it was rattling and I was shaking!  I have NEVER seen a snake up there only cute, little lizards and squirrels!  Creeped out!  My foot is now hurting me....crap!

So she said "probably couldn't bite you" ... that's reassuring :-( Did you read my blog a few days ago when I ran over a rattlesnake with my bike? Luckily I swerved and hit its head. My heart was pounding...!

Do you have a road bike? Maybe try that for a while when you need to get outside.

I'll head over and read your rattlesnake adventure. Maybe running into rattlesnakes isn't all that uncommon?

Oh My!! I hate snakes! Glad you didn't get bitten. Bummer that your foot hurts!
