Short-Term Running Goals:

Recovering from micro-fracture surgery on my right knee.  I tore the cartilage off of my knee while doing a speed-training run one month before Boston.  Doc gave me a cortisone shot so that I was able to finish Boston.  After the surgery, I was told to never run again. :(

Long-Term Running Goals:

QUALIFIED FOR BOSTON! April 16, 2011

Ran Boston on April 14, 2012!

"In truth, runners don't race other runners.  They race against themselves: to conquer their wills, to transcend their weaknesses, to beat back their nightmares.  And while a runner can't actually beat himself, he can beat his time. Even years into running, he can get better." Running for His Life by Michael Hall

I am worn out today! 3 days of working out in a row and my body is wiped!  I think I will take the day off since I have to spend the day downtown and I am running 13.1 again tomorrow.  I need some energy.  My old, bod just doesn't get back in shape like it used to.  I'm hoping my bod can get it together by April 16th!

Enjoy your rest day & have a Happy Half training run tomorrow! Don't worry, you have 15 weeks to be ready for Boston ... important thing is hopefully that injury is all healed up! :)

Have fun at the Nutcracker again!

It is very smart of you to take a day off from running to gear up for your half tomorrow.

Are you following any specific training plan for Boston? You are doing GREAT staying healthy and getting a solid base.

Smooth...what do you recommend? I was thinking of using Hal Higdons intermediate program starting in January. I don't know what I'm doing. I just run because I love it and got lucky and qualified for Boston...so I thought I better run it. I like trail runs and hiking too. I'm not really a fast road runner.

Whatever you do, just make sure you run lots of hills. ...and take it easy with the kick-boxing, you need those feet in good shape :)

I used Hal Higdon's Intermediate program the first year I ran Boston. It is GREAT! The only thing I'd suggest is to incorporate some hills in the last part of your long runs. The Newton hills are not steep but it's where they're at. Sounds to me you are running lots of hills where you live anyway. You are a FAST road runner! Luck had little to do with your BQ at Salt Lake Marathon which is not a particularly fast course. You are a GREAT runner! Seriously! You don't give yourself enough credit. :)

Thanks for telling me now Rattletrap!!! My foot is feeling a little better.... You would think that common sense would have let me know that I shouldn't be kicking large bags with the top of my feet....I guess it is obvious that I just don't have any! Ha! All I run are hills around here and I usually run up bells canyon trail at the end of my runs but I haven't started that yet. I'm still just trying to get back in shape! It is hard to do ! So is typing on my dumb phone.

Seems to me you're doing great...and you have lots of time to train for Boston!!!
