Short-Term Running Goals:

Recovering from micro-fracture surgery on my right knee.  I tore the cartilage off of my knee while doing a speed-training run one month before Boston.  Doc gave me a cortisone shot so that I was able to finish Boston.  After the surgery, I was told to never run again. :(

"In truth, runners don't race other runners.  They race against themselves: to conquer their wills, to transcend their weaknesses, to beat back their nightmares.  And while a runner can't actually beat himself, he can beat his time. Even years into running, he can get better." Running for His Life by Michael Hall

Have you decided not to count your elliptical miles as running miles?

From Steam8 on Sat, May 28, 2011 at 21:54:20 from 166.70.55.77

I guess not. They don't really count! :( I really wish I could run, but I am super glad that I don't have to run in 100 degrees! Actually, I would even take that right now!

You know, some people even convert the bike miles into running miles. They will consider the energy they expend on the bike, thru heart rate or effort or whatever, and convert that to running miles. In other words, let's say the effort I put on riding my bike for 1 hour was equivalent to me running an 8:30 pace. Even though I might have covered 18 miles on the bike, I will convert that into 7.05 running miles. That's just an example. I don't do it. I only log my running miles, and I've never been on an elliptical :P

It stinks not running. Hey, whatever it takes to stay fit. Running is not the only thing.... sure feels like it at times.

Yeah, you're being a lot smarter than I would probably be with an injury. I could never last that long on an elliptical though, nice going!

oh the joys of the elliptical - and the reasons we MUST endure them - BLECH!

I'm with you on the x-training miles. I know I'm working out and I'll document it, but I think they are cheating miles. I don't mind when others mark them, I just don't like them mucking up my miles.
