"In truth, runners don't race other runners.  They race against themselves: to conquer their wills, to transcend their weaknesses, to beat back their nightmares.  And while a runner can't actually beat himself, he can beat his time. Even years into running, he can get better." Running for His Life by Michael Hall

My brother from California wanted to hike one more trail before he had to head home.  We hiked up to Red Pine Lake up Little Cottonwood.  It was so cold at the start.  My hands were numb the entire hike.  We saw two moose, 4 deer and one rabbit on our hike.  We were the only ones heading up the trail.  We Started up before 7am.  On the way back down we saw about 15 people heading up.  It was fun to spend some time with my brother.  He is 17 yrs older than I am.  He is the first of the family and I am the last and it is funny how much we are alike even though we weren't raised together.

My birthday on Monday and my daughters birthday on the 10th.  We headed to Cowabunga Bay a water park.  My husband had the day off and we decided the kids could take friends.  Our Suburban was loaded.  On the way home my 4 yr old was trying to get his wrist band off that I put on for the water park.  All of the other kids were able to pull theirs off.  He was crying and saying it was cutting off his circulation.  I tried to pull it off from the front seat but couldn't get it.  I got out a pocket knife from our glove box and popped it off for him since he was causing a stink.  I found some sugar free candy in the glove box and I grabbed one out and had the wrapper in my teeth. Then all of the kids wanted one of the candies....I was trying to dig down to get the candy out.  They were all saying how hungry they were even though we just got them ice cream before we left the park.  I still had the knife in my hand and I was trying to get them all to be quiet because they were all cold and hungry and crying.......I flipped the pocket knife to close it and it caught my other hand.  Yep.....SHIZZZ came flying out of my mouth with a car load of kids.  It hurt so stinking bad!  Blood starts gushing out, I quickly grabbed the wet wipe bag in the glove box and looked to see if my husband noticed how bad it was bleeding.  I kept holding pressure on it and hoping it would stop bleeding.  NO SUCH LUCK!  I kept peeling the wet wipe back and as soon as pressure was off it would start bleeding again.  We were suppose to drop off friends and go out to eat for Sarah's birthday.  I asked Rick if he could stop at a grocery store so that I could get some steri-stips to hold it together.  He was ticked! We stopped at a grocery store and he went to hop out to get it for me but one of his sandals fell apart and the bottom of his shoe came off! It then became funny to him that we were just a bunch of bad luck! I went in to get the strips and he came walking in with a big rubber band around his shoe to hold it together.  We couldn't quit laughing!  No steri-strips at that grocery store so we went across the street to Walgreen's.  The rubber band broke that was holding his sandal together as we left the store and we were laughing again.  He grabbed the sole of his shoe and was trying to run on the black, hot pavement to the Suburban. It was pretty funny to watch.

Finally got the strips to put on my hand and my hand wouldn't quit bleeding enough to even be able to put them on.  Rick was not laughing anymore and took me to an insta-care to get stitched up which is not good since you can't get stitches wet and we are suppose to be heading to Lake Powell in 3 days!  Rick took the kids to eat while I waited for the doc.  I asked the doc at Instacare to please just glue it back together because I didn't want stitches and was heading to Powell in a couple of days.  She said she wouldn't touch it. They refunded my money and told me I had to go to the ER at IMC and have them call in a hand surgeon. She said it was deep and right over a tendon and they would have to decide if I needed surgery to fix it or I would eventually have the tendon break in half and lose mobility of my finger.......REALLY!

I sat waiting for Rick to come back and pick me up and I was trying not to have a break down and cry in the Insta care.  It was my daughter's 11th birthday and we were going to go home and make cinnamon rolls together, because she loves cinnamon rolls and wanted to learn how to make them.  We are having a big family/friend party at a pool we rented out on Saturday where we will have a big cake for her, but still I felt terrible that I would be ruining her birthday.  Rick came to pick me up and I just couldn't tell him.  I felt sick.  He said..well, did they stitch you up? What about Powell?  I started to cry and said that the doc wouldn't touch my hand and I had to go to the ER at IMC.  There was another hospital that is just up the street but the doc said that I needed to go to the IMC because it was serious.  I felt terrible.  We got home and Rick called my mom to see if she would come up and make cinnamon rolls with Sarah and to babysit since we might be at the ER forever because my hand would be at the bottom of the list in importance.  My mom and dad came up and saved the day!

ER was funny with lots of funny stories.   They peeled back my hand an said the tendon was fine and stitched me up to leave.  WELL, I didn't get feeling back in my finger and the next day my finger is still numb. Rick called in a special favor to have me be seen by an orthopedic hand surgeon yesterday because we were worried that a nerve had been torn at the ER because I have had no feeling in my finger at all and the anesthesia should have worn off.  The hand doc said that it was not normal to not have feeling back yet but in rare cases it could stay numb for up to two days, but very rare.  He said there is NO WAY I should go to Lake Powell and that I would end up getting an infection and have to have surgery and lose mobility in my finger.  Yippeee!

My finger is almost back to normal.  It hurts to type because of the stitches in my hand but at least my finger doesn't feel like it is 10 times the size of normal and feel flubby!

I am a walking disaster area! I don't know how my hub puts up with me! I am ALWAYS doing stupid things.

I am running a long one with my nephew this morning.  He wanted to sleep in, so we are going at 9.  It will be a hot one for us today by the time we get out running.   I better get ready to go! I hope you all have a great weekend and PLEASE think about things before you do them! :)

Seriously, wow. That is really unlucky. Sorry about all of that. But things are good now, no?

The hike sounds really cool, seeing all the wildlife. But ouch, your finger injury sounds terrible! I hope you get feeling back.

Wow! That is crazy. Glad you're ok. It kind of reminded me of my little incident on the W100 course.

Hope you have a good run today and a fun weekend.

Holy smokes! What an event or should I say one event after another! That really is nuts! I hope it is all in the past and you are feeling fine.
