"In truth, runners don't race other runners.  They race against themselves: to conquer their wills, to transcend their weaknesses, to beat back their nightmares.  And while a runner can't actually beat himself, he can beat his time. I wish I could throw on my shoes and run my strength out this morning.  I know this is a running blog and I can't run....but, I wish more than anything I could run today.

Running just makes me feel better all around.  I need it, I'm addicted to it....I love it.  I got up early even after I was out late last night and got on my bike this morning and watched the news while I rode for an hour since I am going to be at the elementary school volunteering for most of the day.  Got the kids off to school all but my 4 yr old and 13 yr old that has late start this morning.  I got on to check his grades and just  don't understand how he can not turn things in or study for his tests.  He has been tested for a lot of things because he was sent to earth with quite a few problems that have been difficult for him.  His IQ is 98th percentile (so he is brilliant) and yet has ADHD.  All he cares about is food and video games.  I told him to turn off his video games and that he knows the rules.....if things aren't turned in and he gets below a B-, he is grounded.  It was WW3 this morning.

You get married and have children and think they will be like you and then I think God does a funny trick on you to teach you patience, love and understanding and sends you a child that is nothing like you.  It is not that he is a teenager that has made him difficult.  He has been difficult from birth.  I just need a good run today to make me feel better.  The bike just isn't cutting it! :(   To top off my fab day, I get to head to southern Utah again to ride atvs and shoot guns...two of my least favorite activities and my husband's favorite activities.  I really need a good run today and one to look forward to to help me through the weekend! ha!

Come on all...I can't feel good from a run.  I am needing  a PUMP UP! I can be a good wife and mom this weekend...I can, I can! :)

Steam... I could push you in the jogger if you want... J/k although - I think that would be awesome. Also, we had to remove said game console from our house. Things have actually been a lot better.

Haha! Promise to push me around Eden and Pineview? I'll take you up on that....it might be too much of a workout for you though! Ha!

PS3...gone for another week! :)

I like that idea Oreo! I'll help you. I've got a double, so we can both push at the same time :)

I don't know what to say on the kid front. I'm dealing with much of the same here. Only problem is - my kid is just like me, and my husband. Poor thing got the worst of both of us. I don't know what short stick he pulled in heaven, but he struggles with so much and telling/asking him anything turns into WW3! He has my depression, his own anxiety, my husband's introverted personality, migranes and lack of coping skills. I try so hard to find ways to help him, but it always seems like an uphill battle. All he wants to do is sit and play wii all day, and if you let him play for hours then ask him to turn it off he whines about how he only got to play for a few minutes and I've now ruined his game and his life. Yeah, I just don't ever let him play anymore. Might as well remove it from the house. Plus, he's only 7. I can't even imagine throwing teenage hormones in there. When you figure it out, will you let me know? :)

Good job hitting the bike this morning Steam! Sounds alot like my son, I am pretty much afraid to log onto the school website and check his grades/assignments ... and he could easily be a straight A student if he would do the work/study! I have been divorced 10 years, and he is mostly just with me on weekends, so I refuse to have those games in my house ... but his mom deals with that conflict daily ... I continually tell her to just get rid of them! If she takes them away, but they are in the house ... it is def WW III waiting to happen! I have to keep my phone with me at all times so I am available to diffuse a situation! Not a fun thing to deal with when you are on a date with a hot chick on a Friday night! lol Be a great wife/mom this weekend, your time to run will come soon ... please keep being patient so that it does!

Funny about your hot date interruptions! ha! Might scare a hottie off!

If I take away the video game completely, there is nothing for him to work for. It is his only motivation to do anything these days. He gets his grades back up and assignments in all so that he can play his games.

Be careful on the bike, I've heard that it can be dangerous.

Good luck with that teen. I have a similar problem. Only mine is 16, 6'2" and 250lbs. He dwarfs both me and his mother and tries to use his size to threaten or intimidate anyone who doesn't give him his way. I threw away our xbox because it caused so much complaining.

We home school so it is different, yet there is that same effort getting them to put the effort in you know they are capable of. I have 2 girls, luckily they are not overly interested in games.

You should ride a bike and shoot guns... combine activities.... he can ride the ATV :)

If it makes you feel any better, my 5-year-old and 3-year-old play Nick Junior games all day on the computer. Hope you survived the ATVs and guns, and had a little fun! Get well soon!

From Smooth on Mon, Oct 17, 2011 at 23:48:01 from 174.27.208.222

I am certain you were a super good wife and mother over the weekend! Seriously, ATVs and guns and video games and ADHD child waging WWIII definitely qualifies you for celestial momma status! :)

I will run a few miles for you if you will ride the bike for me! I don't know how to ride a bike! Heehee!!!
