Short-Term Running Goals:

Recovering from micro-fracture surgery on my right knee.  I tore the cartilage off of my knee while doing a speed-training run one month before Boston.  Doc gave me a cortisone shot so that I was able to finish Boston.  After the surgery, I was told to never run again. :(

Long-Term Running Goals:

QUALIFIED FOR BOSTON! April 16, 2011

Ran Boston on April 14, 2012!

Personal:

Married, 40 year old, mother of four.

"In truth, runners don't race other runners.  They race against themselves: to conquer their wills, to transcend their weaknesses, to beat back their nightmares.  And while a runner can't actually beat himself, he can beat his time. Even years into running, he can get better." Running for His Life by Michael Hall

Core workout and .5 hour on the bike.  I am going to change my name to Rice Krispies because all I am doing is SNAP, CRACKLE and POP!  My left knee now has a click that pops every time I bend my knee as I am walking!  My right knee pops every time I bend down and my ankles are crackling. Not to forget my right hip that has been popping for months now!  I am only 38 and you would think I was 88! I have never had knee problems before... and now..since the marathon, I have double knee problems. Old, old, old!

I'm almost 38, so I'm still young.

My knees crack every time I squat or kneel. I think it's nothing though because it's been doing that ever since I can remember. haha I don't know if you do much trail running, but it might help to try and replace some road running with trail running. It's softer, and I think that the uneven ground helps the muscles that stabilize the knee get stronger.

Crazy...but I am a bit afraid to trail run by myself. I don't really know anyone that lives by me that loves to run like I do. I guess I will just take my mace and go for it!

37 years young here.... I have some weird stuff going on with my knee right now too. It feels like I have a tendon on top of my kneecap right under the skin that moves across the cap from side to side? No pain, just a wacky feeling. Hit the trails Steamer!

Creepy people usually don't inhabit real mountain trails very much. Too difficult, and not enough people to creep on. haha. But for a female it would be a good idea to take the mace or something just in case. Even I take my cell phone on longer runs, mostly so I can take pictures, but also in case of an emergency.

I take Thunder and Lightning with me.

Trails up by you are GREAT! Not that I've run them, I have hiked some, but I'm too clumsy to run on trails. Jun and Scott Weseman are huge trail runners and do a bunch out in your area. If you are interested they are always willing to take a newbie along for some torture, uh I mean fun :)

Oh, and I'm only 31, but feel like I'm 88 lately too! Stinkin' body just doesn't cooperate or recoup like it used to.

My knee had that click yesterday. Gone today, knock on wood... (ice ice ice.)

Mace and cell phone are both good ideas.

My right knee is acting up a bit too and I am only 31!!! Yikes!

I think it's our form. Maybe we better go to running form class and check ourselves before we riggety wreck ourselves! eeekk!

From Steam8 on Thu, Jun 02, 2011 at 21:00:45 from 166.70.55.77

Lil, my form needs some work...at least that is what the PT said. I have been trying to run different, but it is super hard!

Trail ran with no pain and it was great today! yeehaw!

RAD, I know Scott and Craig. I think they are a bit too speedy for me and would be embarrassed to have their shirt-off runs if I was around! :)
