Short-Term Running Goals:

Recovering from micro-fracture surgery on my right knee.  I tore the cartilage off of my knee while doing a speed-training run one month before Boston.  Doc gave me a cortisone shot so that I was able to finish Boston.  After the surgery, I was told to never run again. :(

Long-Term Running Goals:

QUALIFIED FOR BOSTON! April 16, 2011

Ran Boston on April 14, 2012!

Personal:

Married, 40 year old, mother of four.

"In truth, runners don't race other runners.  They race against themselves: to conquer their wills, to transcend their weaknesses, to beat back their nightmares.  And while a runner can't actually beat himself, he can beat his time. Even years into running, he can get better." Running for His Life by Michael Hall

YEEEHHIOOOOOOOO! I QUALIFIED! My half time was 1:46:51 and I kept trying to push myself.  The last three miles it felt like I was running on broken legs! I did it! I did it! I can't believe it! I came in at 3:41:03. 6th for my age and gender.

Jun told me he likes the Margarita Shot Blocks and just keep then shoved back in your cheek.  I started one on 21st east.  I had a BIG WAD in my mouth.  As I entered the park, they were taking a bunch of pictures of me and my fat cheeks! ha!  Sugarhouse Park, Scott Stephenson (Kelli's hub) ran past me.  He was a year younger than me in school.  We chatted for a second and then I slowly saw him vanish from my sight. :(

I was feeling pretty good.  Kept trying to not get up to 9 minute miles, even on the hills.  If I was getting close to 9, I would push myself to run faster.

Saw Jun at mile 11.  He had a great sign, bottle of Citomax and a gel for me.

My mother-in-law with sis and brother-in-law were at mile 16 with my two littlest kids.  It was so fun to give them a smooch and get a little boost to keep going.  One of my sisters kept popping up every few miles to cheer me on.  She is so wonderful.

I have a daughter that dances at Ballet West and it is pretty intense.  You can't miss a day.  My hub took her to dance at 7:30 and she was finished by 10:30.  They both ran down after getting a waffle at Bruge's and met me at the finish line.  I was so excited.  I actually felt better at the end of this marathon than the other two I have run.

Scott told me all about your little visit, amazing you people can talk while running a marathon!

Congrats on the BQ (and cutting 36 minute off last years time) and on not actually breaking anything. ;o) That is a tough course, one I never want to even attempt.

Now, you will have to fill me in on how you kept that shot blok in your cheek. I have been given the same advice (by the same individual) but it makes me gag and choke.

Rest up and make sure everyone pampers you and calls you QUEEN.

Kelli, I am not so sure I haven't broken something. My left foot HURTS! I iced it and my right knee last night. I am hoping it is just a pinched nerve and not ANOTHER STRESS FRACTURE!

Last time I saw Scott was at Hobblecreek. I remember him passing me(he is so muscular, he was easy to remember), but I didn't know who he was. I remember trying to stay up with him but couldn't and after the race as he walked by me, I asked him if he was Scott Stephenson. I hadn't seen him since high school!

The Shot Bloks did make me feel like I was going to gag and puke! I was just so determined to keep my time up this run that I chewed on sports beans and Gu and just about everything and swallowed my puke back down! ha!

Congrats! I'm new to the blogs, but just loved reading this. Hope you make a speedy recovery and you're still savouring the moment! :)

Thanks! I am still in shock! I wish I would have pushed myself a bit harder at the end. Oh well....I still qualified. So excited!

You swallowed your pike back down, huh? Boy, I have some things to learn from you!!

Scott, muscular? Nah, not at all. Since he has started running he has actually dropped about 40 pounds of muscle, he is tiny to me now. ;o)

I am sure you are good, marathons beat you up! Just rest A LOT, take it easy, bike or do the elliptical, and eat lots of ice cream. All will be well soon. And, if something is broken, you BQ'd so it was all worth it. Now, the qustion....are you gonna go to Boston?
